Bright, airy and clean design was popular in 2018. White was a staple, and less proved to be more when it came to interior design. This upcoming year is expected to shift in a new direction, bringing back richer hues and reintroducing comfort. Here is a list of my top five fave interior design trends to look forward to in 2019!
Pantone has released Living Coral as the highly anticipated colour of the year! This bright and poppy hue is sure to bring cheer to any room. Go bold by using a coral paint to make a statement in your space or use splashes of coral through furniture or decorative accents. Coral is a bright colour choice with the ability of creating comfort and warmth in any space.
2) ‘70s lighting
In 2019, expect to see your favourite elements from the past. The biggest lighting trend for this year is retro ‘70s inspired. Love it! Globe pendants and chandeliers incorporate a mixture of modern simplicity and retro flare. Clean lines meshed with smooth curves and body create a harmonious and unique effect in any room!
3) Add texture with velvet
Velvet is a luxurious material dating back to the Renaissance period. Textures are expected to be equally important and influential as colour selection this year. Velvet’s sheen and soft texture create an essence of glamour and comfort. Break up your space with small velvet items such as throw pillows or jump into a larger scale piece such as a full velvet headboard! Either way, incorporating this luxe texture is sure to produce an unforgettable space.
4) Colourful appliances
Be on trend in 2019 by introducing a colourful appliance to your white kitchen. With more options available to select and customize your kitchen appliances, consumers have seemingly unlimited options to bring unique and creative designs to their kitchens. Pair complementary hues to enhance the beauty of your countertops and cabinetry. With so many colourful options available for the largest appliances in your space, you can effortlessly bring an artistic and vibrant focal point to your kitchen!
5) Dark countertops
Marble and quartz will continue to be a popular material selection. Darker countertops are expected to be the item on the 2019 trend radar! Bouncing contrast through darker countertops against lighter cabinets creates a warm and striking design. Black, dark grey and rich green countertop colours are a sophisticated choice. Try adding similar hues through surrounding elements in the kitchen to help tie the space together!
What are your favourite trends for 2019? I think these five are all terrific and I plan on incorporating elements of all of these fabulous trends into my designs this year. You can find more on-trend ideas on our Design Forecast for 2019 Pinterest board
