8 Gladstone's Model Suites Reflect A Hip Aesthetic

By on Dec 21, 2011

8 Gladstone is calling your name – that is, if you find yourself to be a connoisseur of West Queen West culture.  Why spend so much money on cabs to and from the hot spots when you can be just steps away from your favourite watering hole, cinema or music gig?

8 Gladstone Toronto Streetcar Developments

That's exactly the type of question Streetcar Developments hopes to inspire when potential buyers walk through their 8G model suites, imaginatively designed by Jeff Schnitter and Jessica Helps, the principals at Seven Haus Design.

With fresh, fun interiors that reflect the eclectic tastes of a typical Queen West resident, Seven Haus combined vintage and high design in the 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite. "By juxtaposing the two styles side by side," says Mr. Schnitter, "It brings out the beauty of the other." Upon entering the suite, one sees the huge, yellow impact wall of the den. Arranged there is a stunning collection of magazines on large clips that runs all the way to the ceiling.  These are music, fashion, and cultural magazines – the kind that a typical 8 Gladstone resident is most likely to read.  Inside the den, a pin-up board flags a more personal narrative – there are postcards, photos, and objects with the flavour of Queen West; the bric a brac of a young hipster!

With suites ranging from 510 to 1,212 sq. ft. and beginning in the low $200,000’s, Mr. Schnitter says this boutique condo development is ideal for anyone who already loves the neighbourhood and is ready to take that next step towards ownership. "I can see a lot of first time buyers being attracted to this place," says Mr. Schnitter, "So our interiors speak to that demographic."

Take the many references to rock and roll. The guest bathroom, for example, boasts wallpaper with the lyrics of "Goodbye Ruby Tuesday".  Meant to reference the music bands that perform and live in and around the neighbourhood, the lyrics also give a nod to the Stones. "They would always come to play in Toronto first, before a tour," says Mr. Schnitter.  "And because the lyrics are placed sideways," says Ms. Helps, "It really draws onlookers into the space." The master bedroom also showcases the tastes of a Rolling Stones fan with glass boxes exhibiting old posters. The whole bedroom pops with the drama of red and charcoal walls suggesting to clients that they too can make their own statement in this space, whatever their musical tastes.

The eight-storey building promises to be a hip community all its own – but one with all the modern amenities including a multipurpose room for entertaining, a pet spa, an onsite auto share, a gym, and a site-specific bike share program, as well as the greatest amenity of all – the neighbourhood itself.

Despite the vintage design references, the kitchen will boast modern features and finishes such as European-style integrated appliances, Quartz countertops and backsplashes, and wood veneer or high gloss cabinetry. 9 foot ceilings make the space seem even larger. In the central living room, the designers highlight this space by showcasing a gorgeous 8 ft antique doorframe that sits elegantly behind a couch.  Each little detail seeks to create a picture of what the 8 Gladstone lifestyle can and will become.

"Our goal was to infuse the model suite with tons of personality," explains Mr. Schnitter, "And we want future buyers to see this and take it as inspiration for their own living environments."
