Country Kitchen

If you're tired of the plain look of many

modern kitchen designs, you can bring

"country livin" to your new kitchen. Using a few

simple design techniques, your new kitchen can be

transformed into a lovely, inviting room.

What is a country kitchen?

A country kitchen has rustic or antique items,

but still contains all the modern appliances and conveniences.

While the country kitchen of today is a little more

advanced, you can still obtain that pleasant, comfortable

decor that was common in fancy homes of long ago.

Accessories

Create a country theme throughout your new kitchen with

accessories. You can create a theme based on your

personal likes and decor items to match your new kitchen

colors. Reds, greens, and yellows are always a good blend

in a country kitchen. To create a theme, choose decorative

but useful accessories baskets and coffee mugs.

Creative cabinet ideas

Cabinets are the backbone of your new kitchen decor.

You don't have to rearrange them or replace them to

get a new look and feel. You can simply refinish wood kitchen

cabinets to create a country pine atmosphere.

Instead of expanding the kitchen cabinets outward, you might

be able to expand a few of your kitchen cabinets upward. Adding

fancy extensions to the tops of a few of your new kitchen cabinets will

make a world of difference in your new kitchen decor. These

add-ons are great for displaying flowers, foliage, knick

knacks, or antiques. The extensions can be in the form of

open shelves or small glass door cabinets.

You can also replace a couple of your solid kitchen cabinet

doors with glass-faced doors to get a new appearance.

Glass-faced doors still provide storage, but the glass will

break the monotony of plain kitchen cabinets while enhancing

the overall decor of the room.

You might simply leave the doors off one of your new kitchen

cabinets and replace the doors with a small, decorative

curtain instead.

Another great way to enhance your new kitchen decor with kitchen cabinets is by adding fancy front legs to each corner at the bottom

of your new kitchen cabinets. This gives the appearance that your new

kitchen cabinets are free standing, and creates a beautiful new

look for your country kitchen.

Counter tops and flooring

Paint or finish your new kitchen counter tops in a sleek, marble

finish to contrast your new kitchen cabinets. Your new kitchen counter tops

can match your flooring, either in color or design. Brick

patterns make lovely flooring for a country kitchen decor.

Backsplash

Your backsplash can be plain white or another

light color to break through the darkness of your wood

cabinets. You can add mini-shelves or racks to your

backsplash to display country kitchen decor accessories such as

farm animal knick knacks, fruits, canisters, etc.

Windows

Curtains or valances that have earthtone colors mixed

with kitchen country designs can also add tremendously to your

decor. Try decorating your window sills with small plants

to add greenery to the mix!

Use these unique decor methods to create a

country kitchen that's warm, friendly and adds beauty

to your overall home decor.
