Marz Homes preserves a stunning heritage home in Grimsby

About a week ago, Marz Homes and the Grimsby Heritage Advisory Committee celebrated the plaque unveiling of a newly designated heritage home on Main Street West!

The unveiling of the plaque for the Olivia Hare House was the final touch in a long and delicate two-year process, which involved Marz Homes actually lifting the home and moving it to its new location at 270 Main Street West. The Olivia Hare House is now part of Marz Homes’ highly successful infill community, Heritage Lane, which is currently under construction and there are only a few lots still available.

In addition to transporting the heritage home to its new location, Marz Homes also constructed a new foundation for the home, installed new mechanical, and built an addition with a two-car garage on the rear of the home. The master-bedroom and ensuite were also upgraded. All of the upgrades and additions respect the early 20th century design aesthetic.

“Our developers are sensitive to our heritage along this main stretch here,” says Mayor of Grimsby, Bob Bentley in the video embedded above. “They’re intermixing new with old. This building did actually get moved so it could be preserved and a development could be built into the back of it; so we thank Marz Homes for considering saving this building.”

Moving the Olivia Hare House to 270 Main Street West promotes the historical pattern of agricultural development along this corridor in Grimsby, with the homes positioned closely together along the strip and having the farms extending back to the lake or escarpment.

Though Southern Ontario isn’t the oldest region relatively speaking, it’s very important that we continue to preserve our heritage buildings so that one day we can look back and remember how far we’ve all come.

“We’re very proud to have worked with the Town of Grimsby and the Heritage Society in preserving this home so that we can show that new and the old blend well together and you don’t have to sacrifice one for the other,” says Marz Homes President, Dan Gabriele.

What else does Marz Homes have planned for 2016?

The unveiling of the Olivia Hare House was an amazing way for Marz Homes to kick off 2016; what better way to start a new year than to pay homage to the past! As construction at Heritage Lane in Grimsby continues, Marz Homes has plenty planned for the rest of the year.

Heritage Lane isn’t the only popular Marz Homes community in Grimsby; their Azure Lakeside Village community has sold out, and now the highly anticipated Azure West is coming soon! The new collection will feature a wide selection of Marz Homes’ award-winning single detached and townhome designs. Marz Homes is currently accepting registrations for Azure West.

South Coast Village, Marz Homes’ resort-style Crystal Beach community is currently under construction and Phase 2 will be launching this spring. Phase 1 of South Coast Village was very successful thanks to the unique home designs and amazing neighbourhood amenities, including a clubhouse, a swimming pool, tennis courts, shops, and access to a private beach.

Lastly, The Fairgrounds in Binbrook is more than 70% sold! There are a few singles and townhomes still available, with townhomes starting from the $300,000s and the singles from the $400,000s.
