Allegiance: Dream Developments and CD Capital (respectively)

Secret Identity: Matt Young

Age: 29

Time Active: 6 years

Origin Story:

After graduating from University of Western Ontario, Matt started his career working with his uncle. Then after receiving a post grad from the University of Calgary, he got his first crack at the big show, working as a Project Manager at Lifetime Developments. During his time at Lifetime, Matt worked on five successful projects, for which they won many awards and sold over 2,000 units. Matt was involved in every phase of development; this experience gave him a taste for success. He learned how much hard work goes into a successful development, and now he’s ready to make it happen for himself.

Special Powers:

  • Super Dedication - Seeing a condo development through from start to finish is a complex process and takes a lot of time and focus to do right.

  • True Leader  - The development industry is all about managing and building effective teams.

  • Strong Work Ethic - Every part of the development industry is challenging, and if you’re not intimately familiar with the finer details of the projects, you won’t make it very far.

Current Developments:

  • 155 Redpath in Toronto

  • 150 Redpath in Toronto

  • 2131 Yonge Street in Toronto

Vision:

“I think there is no question the future of the industry is in high-rise, particularly in areas with great accessibility to transit, like Yonge & Eglinton. The lack of available land and affordability is continuing to drive homeowners and families into condos. There is a lifestyle shift happening in Toronto where people are no longer prepared to accept the long commutes to work, and want more convenience in their lives. With that said, the next step for me is to figure out how to elevate the condo living experience. Using smart technology to create a better experience for residents is going to be key to this. We made a first step last year launching the first project in Canada to offer a Nest smart thermostat as standard. I’ve made a further step recently in launching a new service business for condos called Alfred, which delivers services like Dry Cleaning, Shoe Shine and Shoe Repair, to residents 24/7 through lockers directly in their building.  I think it’s things like this that will help make that transition to condos easier on families and single family homeowners.

Interesting Fact:

Matt is a food and travel junkie. He’s done a lot of backpacking and has been to over 30 countries!
