New Suite Renderings of Zigg Condos in Toronto!

As we find ourselves in the holiday season, it’s difficult not to look forward into the new year in anticipation of all the new developments that will begin previewing. One condo development in particular that we are especially excited about is Zigg St. Clair West by Fieldgate Homes and Madison Homes.

Let’s start with the interesting name. The name is derived from the word ziggurat, which is a stepped structure or building in ancient Mesopotamia. The Kirkor-designed condo will rise 11 storeys and feature, as the name suggests, a beautiful stepped section.

There is actually an interesting story behind Clifford Korman’s (co-founder of Kirkor Architects & Planners) involvement in the designing of Zigg Condos, which was featured in the Toronto Star at the end of November. In 2011, Korman’s family home in Forest Hill burned to the ground, and he saw it as an opportunity to design his own home. To complement the surrounding architecture, Korman used materials like ipe wood and limestone and kept the home scaled back so as not to stand out too much on the streetscape.

Since the Zigg Condos site is near Korman’s home, he used the same approach to designing the boutique condo. “It’s a wonderful contemporary design and has the benefit of a beautiful waterfall terrace to provide a south view into city,” explains Korman in the Toronto Star article. “It will look down the Davenport valley to the CN Tower, the east- and west-waterfront.”

Korman loves the Forest Hill neighbourhood so much that he ended up reserving a suite for himself and his wife on the fifth floor. “What better compliment can you have than the architect himself wanting to live there?” says Nelly Zagdanski, a principal at Madison Homes. “The area’s excellent and Cliff lives not far away. Many of the buyers for Zigg Condos will be people like him who want to stay in the area because they love it, but are ready to downsize and have an easier lifestyle.”

Without a doubt, the neighbourhood is a coveted one in Toronto. Located at St. Clair and Avenue Road, Zigg Condos is surrounded by the shops of St. Clair and Forest Hill Village, and the luxury boutiques of Yorkville are a short subway ride away. So, shopping options are obviously something you don’t have to worry about at Zigg Condos, and the next potentially most important neighbourhood amenities are groceries, restaurants, and proximity to transit. Zigg Condos has it all covered.

“For condo living, a walkable neighbourhood is key,” says Leith Moore, Senior VP of Urban Infill at Fieldgate Homes. “Zigg also features ample bike parking to promote a healthier and more active form of transportation. Forest Hill is well established and Zigg will add to the distinct character that the area has developed over the years. It’s definitely the kind of community where neighbours recognize each other outside the residence and wave.”

For groceries, the closest big box grocery store would be Loblaws at Yonge, which is only five minutes away by streetcar or less than a 10 minute walk. There are a few restaurants along St. Clair, such as La Stella Restaurant and Bar and Daeco Sushi, but the majority of the restaurant selection is along Yonge, clustered around St. Clair. Japanese cuisine is the most popular in the area, but there are also a fair share of pubs and Italian eateries.

St. Clair features one of Toronto’s only dedicated streetcar lines, so rush hour traffic doesn’t affect transit riders, and the Avenue stop is right outside the front doors of Zigg Condos. So east and west travel is a breeze, and with the Yonge subway line only five minutes away, north and south travel is also a cinch!

Life at Zigg Condos

Zigg Condos will feature one- to three-bedroom suites ranging from 500 to 1,776 square feet. There are 166 suites in total, three of which are townhomes. The Design Agency, an award-winning firm based in Toronto, has come up with distinct designs for the suites and amenity spaces. Zigg Condos features a wide variety of amenities including a games room, a party room, and a spacious rooftop deck with barbecue stations and a fireplace. There is also a pet washing station, which many homebuyers will appreciate since dog owners have become so prevalent in the city.
