Shaun White Taking up Surfing?

By Lucas on Dec 09, 2012

Shaun White, the snowboarding Olympian phenom, has just purchased a new home. Nope, it’s not a luxury chalet on his favourite Mountain (although he probably owns one of those as well), it’s a little beach home in Encinitas, California.

Shaun White picked up the 3,501 square foot, three-bedroom, three-bathroom home earlier this year for a cool $3.85 million; a pretty good deal, considering the home was originally listed for $4.25 million. Like any beach side home in California, this one has the floor-to-ceiling windows fronting the Pacific Ocean, a huge living area that opens up into an even bigger outdoor space, with a fire pit, of course, and his own little stairway leading down to the beach.

There’s something odd about this purchase, and it’s not just because the home is on the beach and Shaun White is known for snowboarding (also skateboarding). The interior design of the home resembles something one of our parents, or grandparents would like - not a young extreme sports all-star. Apparently, the home was built in 1999, and it looks like the furniture, entertainment system, and paint job haven't been changed since.

We can only assume that Shaun White plans on redecorating this entire place, maybe get a few flat screens in there, some darker colours, and definitely some new couches. We’re positive that any of these big living areas can be turned into a mini skatepark....cool. That outdoor space is pretty amazing though; it looks like a fancy five-star resort. Also, that handrail leading down to the beach will probably be pretty tempting for a daredevil like Mr. White.

If Shaun White makes this California home his primary residence, don’t be surprised if he’s suddenly the best surfer in the world. It’s bound to happen.
