TIFF in the Park: The Perfect Summer Evening

By Lucas on Jul 10, 2014

What better way to enjoy a clear summer evening than an outdoor movie? A number of Toronto organizations host outdoor movie nights around the city; one of our favourites during the summer is TIFF in the Park.

This year, the theme of TIFF in the Park is “Backstage Pass.” The collection of movies screening throughout July and August will reveal the “trials, tribulations and triumphs of life in ‘The Biz.’”

The free screenings in David Pecaut Square operate on a first-come, first-serve basis, but the Square is so large that you can really sit anywhere and just enjoy the weather and company of friends.

Here’s a list of the movies:

(Visit TIFF.net for showtimes)

July 16: Billy Elliot

July 23: Searching for Sugar Man

July 30: Sunset Boulevard

August 6: Pina

August 16: A Star is Born

August 20: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

August 27: Pitch Perfect

If for some reason, you can only choose one of these movies, we recommend Searching for Sugar Man! You won’t be disappointed.

KING BLUE Hero King Blue Condos by Easton's Group

Living in the Entertainment District

If you’re an avid follower of Toronto’s condo scene, or even a casual follower, you know that the Entertainment District, specifically along King Street West has been a hot spot for the past few years, and continues to be to this day.

Theatre Park by Harhay Developments, Niche Development, and Lamb Development Corp is making a strong impact on Toronto’s skyline, and it’s located right across the street from David Pecaut Square. The Mercer by Graywood Developments and Beaverhall Homes is just steps away from the park and it is close to topping off. King Blue Condos by Easton’s Group at King and Blue Jays Way is still in the preconstruction phase and Lifetime Developments and INK Entertainment are still digging at Bisha Hotel and Residences.

One of the biggest developments in the area is the Mirvish+Gehry Toronto condos, recently revised to feature two towers, one of which will still reach a tremendous 92 storeys, and the Princess of Wales Theatre will be maintained. With support from the City, it looks like this project will move forward soon. Imagine, you could live in a Frank Gehry-designed tower, right across the street from the park that hosts one of the largest outdoor screening series in the city!
